Sustainable Territorial Development: Large-Scale Implementation of Agroforestry Systems (AFS)

Belterra Agroflorestas

We operate in 7 states across 3 biomes
-
Amazônia;
-
Caatinga; e
-
Mata Atlântica.
Belterra Agroflorestas was founded in 2020 with the purpose of enabling the implementation of large-scale Agroforestry Systems (SAFs).
Our trajectory is marked by the integration of productive restoration strategies and large-scale socio-environmental impact, strengthened by tools, protocols, and processes that allow for the scaling of Agroforestry Systems (SAFs).
This combination ensures consistent and reliable results in the three pillars that guide our actions: social, environmental, and climatic.

How an Agroforestry System works
The Agroforestry System is a form of planting that brings together forest species, native plants, and agricultural crops (such as cocoa, açaí, oil palm, banana, etc.) in the same space. It mimics the way nature works: each plant grows at its own pace, some faster, others slower, forming a “community” of species that help each other.
In Practice
-
We implement agroforestry systems designed to mimic natural ecological succession processes;
-
We use species native to the biomes in which we operate, combined with productive crops such as cocoa, oil palm, and açaí;
-
Management is done in a regenerative way, ensuring soil improvement and water conservation;
Standing Forest Benefits
-
Carbon credit generation through the maintenance of trees in the field (keeping trees standing and growing).

Mission
Vision
Our Purpose
To regenerate degraded land while generating value and delivering positive socio-environmental impact.
To be a benchmark in the operation of scalable Agroforestry Systems, managing and fostering regenerative value chains.

Steps
-
1. We connect banks, companies, and investment funds to develop agroforestry systems.
2. We work with the best consultants for each crop. -
3. We promote knowledge exchange between companies, institutes, and universities.
-
4. We establish commercial partnerships and arrange for the purchase of SAF products.

How the Commercialization of Agroforestry Crops Works
-
Belterra is contractually committed to supporting all commercialization processes for SAF production.
-
All cocoa (and other crops, such as bananas, cassava, açaí, palm oil, etc.) produced in SAFs will be guaranteed marketing by Belterra and a percentage paid in full to partner farmers through pre-established contractual definitions.

COCOA
Cocoa is the star of the Agroforestry System. The harvest of the first cocoa fruits, which began in late 2025, represents the result of work that began when Belterra was founded in 2020, when there was only planning, partnership, and a conscious long-term commitment.
The numbers that embody this cycle:
• 13 tons of cocoa harvested in January 2026 alone, in Bahia.
• 37 tons harvested throughout 2025.
These numbers symbolize:
✔️ the trust built over time.
✔️ respect for the rhythm of nature.
✔️ the daily work of the entire team.
✔️ proof that impact, production, and income can go hand in hand.

Environmental
Reduction of carbon emissions; improved soil fertility; and restoration of local biodiversity.
Key Benefits
Social
Producer empowerment and fair value recognition; improved quality of life; access to new markets; and job creation for local communities.

Economic
Diversification of agricultural crops and generation of carbon credits; increased agricultural productivity; and greater climate resilience.
Engagement and Strategic Partnerships
-
According to the Internal Census conducted annually by the Human Resources team, across administrative, technical, management, and operational sectors, Belterra has generated 509 jobs to date.
-
In terms of expansion, we will reach 650 new positions by the end of 2025.
-
Since the beginning of our activities, Belterra Agroflorestas has directly impacted approximately 7,000 people.
